Several Manitoba Beaches have Mobility Mats, but as yet no Beach Wheelchairs

While Manitoba Parks does not currently offer beach wheelchairs at their parks, they have implemented beach mobility mats to improve accessibility for those with mobility aids, including wheelchairs. These mats allow easier access to the water’s edge at various popular beaches. Mobility Mats: Manitoba Parks has added mobility mats to nearly 20 beaches in provincial parks. These mats make it easier for individuals using wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility aids to access the waterfront. The mats are a part of a broader effort to enhance accessibility in the province’s parks. Beach Wheelchairs: Currently, there are no modified beach wheelchairs available at Manitoba beaches. However, the province is considering adding them in the future. One individual has spearheaded a campaign to have beach accessible wheelchairs available at all Manitoba lakes, according to the CBC. The province is actively looking into the possibility of implementing this service. Examples of Parks with Mobility Mats: Bakers Narrows, Birds Hill, Clearwater Lake, Duck Mountain, Grand Beach, Hecla, Lundar Beach, Rainbow Beach, Spruce Woods, Whiteshell, and Winnipeg Beach provincial parks all have mobility mats. Birds Hill Provincial Park also has a paved bicycle and roller blading trail, and is a popular spot for camping, swimming, and picnicking. Whiteshell Provincial Park is a large park in southeastern Manitoba with various recreational activities.
